Jerusalem is an important city to three major religions; Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. While it is important to these three religions, the reason why it is important are conflicting. This is because certain areas play different roles in different religions. For example, the Old City is important to Jews because it is where the Western Wall is, the last remnants of the Jewish Temple. It is also where the Dome of the Rock is located, where Abraham was tested of his faith to God. Yet, in that same place, Muslims believe Mohammed spoke to Gabriel, and was instructed on the teachings of Islam. The City is also a holy place for them. However, Christians believe that Jerusalem is most important to them, because that is where Jesus was born, lived his life, died, and was resurrected. Jesus spread Christianity, performed miracles, and much much more in Jerusalem. All in all, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity all have deeply rooted history in Jerusalem.
Now you know all about Jerusalem! Felt a bit short? Well, here are a few extra facts, which I have only posted in the Expertscolumn Post!
- Abraham's test of faith was that God told him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham was about to kill his son with a knife when God stopped him, satisfied of Abraham's loyalty.
- Some people argue that Jesus was not born in Jerusalem, but in Benthleham.
- The Western Wall can also be called the Wailing Wall, due to many Jews praying and greiving there.
